Electricity Africa, the publicity and event arm of RDJ Consulting Services, a wholly-owned Namibian enterprise operating under the branding of Electricity Africa, hosted Namibia’s first ever Solar for Development International Exhibition and Conference on October 13 and 14, 2016 at the Windhoek Country Club & Resort.
The event was dedicated to showcase existing practical solar projects in the country that show the utilization of solar power for national development and effective service delivery. The relevance of this event lay in its awareness-raising opportunity to demonstrate current achievements of the nation and the wider world.
As per our plight to promote renewable energy and help build a Solar Age, we as Solar Age Namibia Pty Ltd had the opportunity to take part in this event. Several other companies from Namibia and beyond graced the event too, Solsquare Solar Solutions Namibia, ExSolar Solar Solutions, MLT Power, Jinko Solar, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, just to mention a few.
Certain aspects were identified to have been the key reason for slowing down the renewable energy developments. It was also concluded that transparent coordination between sectors is very important for proper implementation of policies. Consequently, it’s crucial to consolidate all sectors in society under one roof as to celebrate on the success achieved and deliberate on how to move forward. The government should work together with the private sector so as to steer the country forward. On the other hand, the conference created a good platform for companies and several sectors to showcase what has to far been implemented and also share new technologies for a more vibrant solar industry in Africa.
